Non-invasive wireless fetal heart rate monitoring during pregnancy

During labor, the health of fetus is critical. Equipping doctors with timely and accurate information with minimum invasiveness is sought for a healthy delivery. Fetal heart rate carries valuable features; however it is a faint signal in a noisy environment made up of periodic and non-periodic oscillatory motions such as contractions, mother heart rate, and muscle tensions. More, such signal is not directly accessible. Yet, using blind source separation techniques, we can extract the fetus heart rate and other traits from measured mother heart rate. Once done in real time, we can make educated and healthy decisions. Such tools can be extended to be used throughout the duration of pregnancy, giving the mother the knowledge to adjust her behavior for a healthy experience throughout.
